This outworld is the mini-size version of our "M/L Glass Outworld" series. Perfect for starter ant-keeping set-ups, it provides a foraging area for your small ant colony or queen ant.
 
These series of outworlds or outside worlds feature clean, clear glass on the front and back, the side panels allow for ventilation, connectivity and compatibility with our formicaria, the design is slim and features double lips on all edges, making escaping hard, especially when combined with an escape barrier, you can easily connect them and create your network of foraging areas, nests and tubing paths.
 
The top features dual lids with a removable plastic fine grid (0.3mm pores) and horizontal flat ledges to force the ants to walk upside down on a slippery barrier. You can quickly remove the mesh while preserving the ledge and depositing or removing food.
 
The mesh on the lid and side walls allows for plenty of air exchange in the foraging area; keeping humidity as low as possible creates a dry area that is key to preventing ants from digging or attempting to nest there. A key difference in this design compared to the "Glass display arenas" is the cross ventilation capability due to the mesh on the plastic side walls.
 
It is recommended to use a thick escape barrier (similar to "petroleum jelly") on all contact areas of the top lid to ensure a perfect seal and lubricate the parts. Also, use your preferred escape barrier method like jelly, oil or fluon on the top edge of each inside wall and the internal flat surface of the lid and around the mesh on each side wall.

Tubing size: 
 
The outside world has two opening holes for vinyl tubing, one on each plastic sidewall; the location and height of the openings match most of our formicarium designs for ease of use; options for tubing diameter are 9.5 mm (3/8") or 12.7 mm (1/2").
 
Length/Dimension: 
 
It measures five cms tall by five cms in-depth and eight cms in length, the perfect size to be compact but still allow for the basic needs of a small colony.
 
Note; the base of our moat-style liquid feeders does not fit inside this mini outworld; only the 5mL tower-style feeders and the nano tower feeders will fit inside. 
 
Substrate:
 
Graded and uniformly screened for medium-small granules, thoroughly washed to remove fine dust "sandy" particles and dirt, oven-baked at 120 °C to kill mould spores and bacteria. Non-toxic and inert. This substrate is easy to clean and rearrange and has a beautiful texture and look; it is safe for ants to bring inside the formicarium if they need to customize their chambers. This substrate does not absorb or retain humidity, helping ensure the outworld is as dry as possible to prevent ants from nesting or digging there.
